The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has recently added green vehicles to its fleet, including two CNG buses and two heavy truck road sweepers, in an effort to promote green energy in its operations. The introduction of CNG buses is a first for the port, and is part of a series of Green Port initiatives being undertaken by the major port. The move aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign, which aims to promote self-reliance and sustainability in India’s major ports.
The VPA is committed to maintaining cleanliness and high environmental standards at its facilities, and the introduction of industrial sweepers is intended to contribute to this goal. The port authority expects to incur a total expenditure of Rs 9.68 billion over a period of three years for these projects, which are expected to enhance environmental quality and contribute to achieving clean port standards.
The initiatives are also expected to play a crucial role in VPA’s transformation into a global port and are a significant step towards promoting sustainability and clean energy in port operations in India.
