Adani Krishnapatnam Port Limited (AKPL) set a record by handling 5.74 million metric tonnes of dry cargo in a single month, the highest in its history. This achievement showcases the port’s robust infrastructure and operational efficiency. AKPL also marked its largest single-day road dispatch at 55,958 metric tonnes, reflecting exceptional logistics capabilities.
The 12 major ports owned by the Indian government experienced a 4.34% increase in cargo handling in the fiscal year 2024-2025, totaling 854.858 million tonnes. Strong performances in containers, finished fertiliser, and miscellaneous cargo drove this growth, with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority leading in container volumes.
In the first 100 days of the fiscal year 2024-25, Paradip Port Authority achieved a significant milestone by handling a record-breaking cargo volume of 41.12 million Metric Tons, showcasing a 4.78% growth compared to the previous year. This impressive performance highlights the port’s commitment to operational excellence and capacity enhancement, supporting India’s economic growth.
The Vizhinjam International Port has emerged as the top performer in cargo handling among 15 harbors in southern and eastern India. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised the port’s rapid progress and highlighted its significance in the global maritime industry. With only eight months of operation, Vizhinjam has already made a significant impact.
India’s major ports have experienced a significant increase in cargo handling, reaching 819.23 million tonnes in 2023-24. The growth aligns with global standards, with liquid bulk accounting for 33.80%, dry bulk 44.04%, and container cargo 22.16%. Infrastructure development, including new berths and terminals, aims to enhance connectivity and streamline logistics for export-oriented industries.
DP World reported a 17% increase in cargo handling at its Cochin terminal in 2024 due to new equipment and expanded yard space. The terminal reached a record volume of 840,564 TEUs, solidifying its position as a major terminal in South and East India. Additionally, the terminal’s electrification efforts have reduced its carbon footprint.
