The Inland Waterways Authority of India has established a Regional Centre of Excellence in Bogibeel, Dibrugarh, aimed at training 5,396 participants in maritime skills. This initiative, part of a broader Rs 50,000 crore strategy, focuses on enhancing inland water transport capabilities and fostering regional economic growth through skilled professional development.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met Denmark’s Minister Morten Bodskov to enhance maritime cooperation, resulting in a bilateral agreement for a Centre of Excellence in Green Shipping in India. This initiative supports the Green Strategic Partnership, aligning with India’s Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, focusing on sustainable maritime practices and innovation.
The foundation stone for the Centre of Excellence building at the Indian Maritime University was laid by Dr. Malini V Shankar. The construction is set to be completed by July 2025, overseen by university officials and CPWD’s Chief Engineer. The center aims to promote research, training, and industry partnerships in the maritime sector.
