Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has reached a milestone by delivering India’s first passenger vessel powered by hydrogen fuel cells, the catamaran ferry FCV Pilot-01. Currently operational on the Ganges River, it features innovative technology, with a length of 24.8 meters, ensuring efficient and eco-friendly transportation on India’s waterways.
On September 22, 2026, Synergy Marine Group and Cochin Shipyard Limited formalized their collaboration with a memorandum of understanding in Kochi. The agreement, signed by key executives, aims to combine CSL’s industrial capacity with Synergy’s shipbuilding expertise, enhancing project delivery and focusing on converting LNG carriers into floating storage units.
MacGregor has been selected to deliver comprehensive cargo handling solutions for six LNG-powered containerships under construction at Cochin Shipyard for CMA CGM. Scheduled for delivery from 2029 to 2031, this project enhances India’s role in sustainable shipping, marking a significant milestone for the Indian maritime industry and global trade.
Ship building activity in coastal Karnataka has surged with UCSL launching the first of six 3800 TDW dry cargo vessels for Wilson ASA of Norway. Scheduled for delivery in February 2025, followed by five more vessels and eight 6300 TDW dry cargo vessels. UCSL also has orders for constructing Bollard Pull ASD tugs.
The Indian government is set to sell a 5% stake in Cochin Shipyard, a shipbuilding company, at a floor price of 1,540 rupees, valued at 20.26 billion rupees. This move is part of the government’s divestment efforts, with a total of 31.61 billion rupees raised so far in the fiscal year.
