South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) is leading a project to recycle evaporated gas emitted during the construction of liquefied natural gas-powered ships into city gas. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is part of a national task established by the South Korean Ministry.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) received approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for a new tank design for large-scale hydrogen transport. The tank features a vacuum insulation system for safer transport of liquid hydrogen. Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for their innovative vacuum-insulated large-scale liquid hydrogen (LH₂) tank system. This achievement marked the world’s first technical validation of large-scale LH₂ tank insulation design through successful testing of a large-scale vacuum chamber.
