India is making significant progress in developing two major ports, Vadhavan and ICTP at Great Nicobar, with plans for the first phase to be operational by 2029. With projects worth billions already awarded, these ports aim to solidify India’s position as a global shipping hub, propelling its maritime sector forward.
The Union and Andhra Pradesh governments are teaming up to revive Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district, transforming it into a shipbuilding and port cluster. RITES Ltd will conduct a technical study for this maritime hub, integrating it with industrial corridors. Plans for similar clusters at Mulapeta and Ramayapatnam are also in the works.
Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Port Development and Employment’ at the Kerala Gazetted Officers’ Association Conference, emphasis was placed on the economic impact of the Vizhinjam International Port in Kerala. Panelists highlighted the importance of using natural opportunities to maximize port development, reduce pollution, and rejuvenate struggling sectors like cashew.
