On May 11, 2025, an Iraqi cargo ship docked at Karwar port, carrying bitumen. The crew included 13 Indians and three foreign nationals. Due to regional tensions, the Pakistani and Syrian members were barred from disembarking. Authorities conducted security checks, confiscating their phones but found no suspicious materials.
The Panama Maritime Authority strongly advises all Panama-flagged vessels to avoid transiting in the Middle East region due to ongoing security concerns.
