Mediterranean Shipping Company SA has launched a feeder service connecting Adani Ports’ container terminal in Vizhinjam, Kerala, to Haldia Dock Complex. This service, operating every ten days, aims to reduce dependence on Colombo port for container transportation. Discounts on port charges are offered to container ships loading 601-1,000 TEU per call at Haldia.
The Vizhinjam Conclave 2025, scheduled for January 28 and 29 at the Hyatt Regency in Thiruvananthapuram, aims to explore industrial opportunities linked to the Vizhinjam International Seaport. With over 300 delegates and 50 investors expected to attend, the event will focus on signing at least 20 MoUs to boost economic growth in the region.
In January, the Vizhinjam International Seaport will begin roadway cargo traffic, marking a significant milestone for India’s maritime trade industry. Trial runs with container trucks are already underway, testing the feasibility of utilizing the current road network. Plans for a container rail station and industrialization consultant are also in progress to enhance port capabilities.
