The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the United States Coast Guard Research and Development Center (USCG-RDC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and development in key maritime technologies. Both organizations have extensive portfolios of innovation projects, and their cooperation under the MoU will focus on areas such as remote and autonomous systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, risk analysis, and the impact of energy transition on the maritime sector.
In a rapidly changing maritime industry, sharing best practices and advancements with trusted partners is vital. Bruce Baffer, ABS Senior Vice President for Global Government, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in driving progress and innovation in the sector. The MoU will enhance the USCG RDC’s ability to support the Coast Guard at strategic, operational, and tactical levels, according to Captain Michael P. Chien, Commanding Officer of the USCG-RDC.
