According to a regional maritime agency, the ports in India have experienced relative stability, with only two armed robbery incidents reported between January and June 2024. This marks a decrease from the three incidents recorded in the previous year. Krishnaswamy Natarajan, the executive director of the ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre based in Singapore, highlighted that these robberies typically involve theft of nominal items or engine spares, which are often sold on the black market.
During the release of ReCAAP’s Half-Year Report, Natarajan revealed that a total of 12 incidents occurred in the Indian Ocean Region within the same period. Despite the overall stability in India’s ports, it is important for authorities to remain vigilant and continue implementing security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
It is worth noting that the information provided in the report is based on data collected from various agencies. The report serves as a reminder of the importance of maritime security and the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of ports in the region.
