Turkish shipbuilder UZMAR Shipyard recently delivered the new tugboat Balahu to P&O Reyser for operations at the Port of Barcelona, a bustling port in Spain. The Balahu is an asymmetric tractor tug (ATT) designed by Spanish ship design firm Cintranaval, specifically tailored for maneuvering large vessels in high-traffic port environments. Equipped with Kongsberg azimuth stern drive (ASD) units, the tugboat boasts a bollard pull of 73.5 tonnes, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
Powered by two MAN Energy Solution 12V175D MM+ 12-cylinder high-speed diesel engines, each generating 2,400 kW of mechanical power at 1,800 rpm, the Balahu is the first tugboat globally to feature these innovative engines. The vessel also meets IMO Tier III emission standards and is classified as an ‘Eco Silent’ vessel, prioritizing crew comfort through enhanced noise and vibration control. The delivery ceremony was attended by UZMAR president Noyan Altuğ and P&O Reyser CEO Iñigo Garcia Gorbeña, underscoring the significance of this milestone.
Altuğ emphasized the Balahu’s advancements in ship design, emphasizing safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence. He expressed pride in delivering the vessel to P&O Reyser, aligning with their shared vision for a sustainable maritime future. Gorbeña echoed these sentiments, highlighting the partnership’s strength and the upcoming delivery of the tugboat Caraba, which will further enhance their capabilities. He commended both UZMAR and P&O teams for their dedication and exceptional work on the project, paving the way for continued success in maritime operations.
