Kongsberg Maritime has reached a significant milestone in ensuring the cyber security of its products by completing testing to comply with IACS UR E27, based on IEC 62443, and obtaining DNV Cyber Security Profile 1 certification. This testing covers a variety of digital products, including automation, navigation, and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems. To meet the new Cyber Security Requirements introduced on July 1, Kongsberg Maritime began the certification process last year, starting with its Automation & Control portfolio.
In order to achieve Type Approval certification, Kongsberg Maritime implemented an extensive program to evaluate each product and incorporate necessary features and documentation to meet security, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards. The company anticipates that the majority of its digital products will receive DNV Type Approval for compliance by the end of August, with plans to expand into integration and energy systems, propulsion, and cargo handling products in the future.
Director Cyber Security, Automation & Control at Kongsberg Maritime, Oscar Kallerdahl, emphasizes the importance of establishing a baseline of cyber security for all digital products to address the challenges faced by ship owners over the operational lifespan of a vessel. The Type Approval certification not only provides peace of mind to ship owners but also benefits shipyards by streamlining the design, integration, installation, and testing processes for Kongsberg Maritime technology in newbuild and retrofit projects.
