Kongsberg Maritime recently unveiled the RD-AZ-2300, a new rim-drive azimuth thruster designed with a propeller diameter of 2,300 mm. Positioned between the existing RD-AZ-1900 and RD-AZ-2600 models, this new thruster offers ship owners and operators increased flexibility in selecting the right thruster for their specific needs. The RD-AZ-2300 is particularly well-suited for vessels operating in challenging environments such as offshore wind farms, where precise maneuverability and low noise levels are essential.

Meeting the stringent requirements of DNV’s Silent R classification, the RD-AZ-2300 provides significant advantages for underwater research vessels by reducing underwater radiated noise below sea levels. This reduction in noise is not only beneficial to marine ecosystems but also enhances onboard comfort for crew and passengers. Anton Westerlund, VP of product management for thruster systems at Kongsberg Maritime, expressed excitement about introducing the RD-AZ-2300 to the market, emphasizing its exceptional performance, efficiency, and maneuverability for a wide range of vessel types.

Kongsberg Maritime has a strong track record of pioneering electric propulsion technology, with their rim-drive azimuth thrusters known for their compact design, high efficiency, and low environmental impact. By eliminating the need for gearboxes and traditional shaft lines, these thrusters reduce noise and vibration, improve fuel consumption, and lower emissions. Overall, the RD-AZ series offers top-notch performance and is a preferred choice for various vessel applications.
