Oslo, Norway – 4 June 2025 – At Nor-Shipping in Oslo, a collaboration among Kongsberg Maritime, Solstad, Østensjø, DeepOcean, and Remota was unveiled to pilot remote Dynamic Positioning (DP) operations in the offshore sector. Set to commence later this year on the vessel Normand Sentinel, the initiative aims to enhance operational flexibility and broaden recruitment opportunities by enabling DP operations from shore.
The shore-based DP operator will operate from a Remote Operations Centre (ROC) managed by Remota, utilizing advanced connectivity and cybersecurity measures. This project marks a significant move toward smarter, sustainable maritime practices, aiming to unlock efficiencies in offshore operations while maintaining onboard DP teams for safety and comparative data.
Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President of Kongsberg Maritime, emphasized the goal of challenging industry norms through innovative remote technology. CEOs from partner companies echoed this sentiment, highlighting the collaboration’s potential to transform offshore operations and enhance efficiency for energy operators. The partnership is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), setting the stage for a new era in maritime operations.
