DNV Confirms Kandla Port’s Readiness for Methanol Fuel Bunkering

To evaluate its readiness for methanol bunkering, the port enlisted the expertise of DNV Maritime Advisory Services. The assessment resulted in a commendable Level 6 rating on the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) Port Readiness Level scale, indicating a strong preparedness for this emerging fuel type.

On April 2, 2026, the port marked a significant milestone by successfully executing a trial shore-to-ship methanol bunkering operation. This initiative was conducted in partnership with several key industry players, including Stolt Tankers, J M Baxi, Aegis Vopak, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

The trial served as a crucial test of bunker transfer processes, safety protocols, and regulatory adherence. On-site verification during the operation confirmed that the port’s practices are in line with global standards, reinforcing its commitment to safety and efficiency in the burgeoning field of methanol bunkering.
