Gujarat’s Maritime Milestones Spotlighted by CM Bhupendra Patel at India Maritime Week

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized the state’s role as a maritime powerhouse during the inauguration of India Maritime Week 2025, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The event, organized by the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alongside other dignitaries including Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Chief Ministers from Maharashtra, Goa, and Odisha.

Addressing an audience of global maritime leaders and investors from over 100 countries, CM Patel highlighted Gujarat’s integrated ecosystem for “chip and ship” manufacturing, supporting Prime Minister Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He noted that Gujarat has become the “Maritime Gateway of the Nation,” handling more than 40% of India’s total cargo traffic and leading in LNG-LPG handling, with Dahej accounting for over 80% of the country’s throughput. The state also contributes 98% to ship recycling at Alang, the world’s largest shipbreaking yard.

Looking ahead, CM Patel announced plans to increase the capacity of Gujarat’s major and non-major ports to 3,000 MMTPA by 2047, aligning with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. He also showcased the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal as a testament to PM Modi’s vision of balanced development and heritage preservation. Furthermore, he underscored the state’s commitment to maritime innovation, skill development, and initiatives focused on the blue economy, emphasizing that Gujarat’s ports serve as vital hubs for trade, employment, and industrial growth.
