Mukesh Mangal, the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, assured the safety of all Indian seafarers operating in West Asia during a media briefing on Wednesday. He emphasized that maritime operations in the region remain uninterrupted despite ongoing tensions. The government is actively monitoring Indian vessels and crews in the Persian Gulf to ensure their safety.
Mangal confirmed that 16 Indian-flagged vessels, with a total of 433 Indian seafarers onboard, are currently operating in the western Persian Gulf. He reinforced that authorities are maintaining close coordination with various ministries, Indian missions abroad, and maritime stakeholders to enhance operational safety and stability.
In terms of logistical updates, two Indian-flagged LPG carriers, Green Sadhvi and Green Asha, have recently traversed the crucial Strait of Hormuz and are anticipated to arrive at Indian ports within the week, dependent on operational conditions. The Green Sadhvi carries approximately 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG with 25 crew members, while the Green Asha has around 15,000 metric tonnes and 26 seafarers onboard.
These developments occur amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region, with India adopting a vigilant stance to protect its maritime interests and maintain secure supply chains. The government remains focused on enhancing maritime infrastructure and port efficiency.
