In light of rising security concerns in the Gulf region, India has heightened its vigilance regarding Indian-flagged vessels and their crews. The Indian government is closely monitoring three significant ships located in the Gulf of Oman due to ongoing regional tensions.
Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Chief Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to protecting its maritime workforce. Currently, 76 Indian seafarers are on the monitored vessels in the Gulf of Oman, while an additional 677 are aboard 24 vessels operating in the Persian Gulf.
To ensure the well-being of seafarers and their families, the Directorate General of Shipping has established a 24/7 helpline for support and communication. This initiative aims to provide timely assistance during these uncertain times.
Additionally, measures have been implemented to facilitate the return of Indian nationals whose employment contracts have ended amid the ongoing conflict, ensuring their safe repatriation. The government remains focused on the safety and security of its maritime personnel in these challenging circumstances.
