In a significant step towards India’s clean energy transition, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla has inaugurated the country’s first “Mega-in-India” green hydrogen project. Union Minister for Ports, Sarbananda Sonowal, along with other dignitaries, attended the launch, which marks a critical milestone in India’s mission for net-zero emissions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Minister Sonowal highlighted the rapid progress of the project. The foundation for a 10 MW green hydrogen facility was laid by the Prime Minister in May 2025, and the first module of the plant has already been commissioned within four months. This achievement sets a new standard for project execution in India’s green hydrogen sector, positioning DPA as a leader with an annual production capacity of approximately 140 metric tons of green hydrogen.

Sonowal commended DPA’s commitment to green initiatives, including the innovative use of India’s first all-electro-green tugboat. He emphasized the importance of sustainable solutions crafted by Indian engineers. With this project, DPA exemplifies the integration of speed, scaling, and skill in advancing India’s maritime decarbonization efforts.
