Echandia has been chosen to provide the battery system for India’s first fully electric tug, set to operate at Deendayal Port Authority (Kandla Port) under the Government of India’s Green Tug Transition Program. This vessel will feature a 4.4 MWh Echandia battery system, ensuring zero-emission operations at a key port hub.

Designed for a 15-year lifespan, the battery aligns with the operational agreement between Ripley Group and Deendayal Port Authority. Following a successful charter tender, Ripley Group engaged Kongsberg Maritime as the system integrator, with Echandia selected through a competitive bidding process.

The delivery of the battery system is planned for the third quarter of 2026. This electric tug marks the first in a series, with 16 additional electric tugs anticipated by 2027. Furthermore, around 150 new electric tugs are projected, aiming for a total of 400 vessels by 2040, highlighting India’s commitment to sustainable maritime operations.
