VOC Port is embracing sustainability with ambitious green initiatives to promote a cleaner future. Currently, it operates a 5 MW orpotry drive, a 2 MW wind power plant, and a 1.04 MW rooftop solar system, with plans for an additional 1 MW solar installation. In the 2024–25 fiscal year, these efforts generated 12.65 million units of Green Power, cutting approximately 10.37 million kilograms of CO₂ emissions. Notably, VOC Port is the first major port in India with over 1 MW of rooftop solar capacity.
To enhance eco-friendly mobility, VOC Port has installed five EV charging stations and deployed 20 electric vehicles. As part of its CSR initiatives, the port donated a CNG bus to a local school. Additionally, it has successfully piloted a green hydrogen project powered by its renewable energy, moving towards innovative clean fuel technologies. The project aims to supply hydrogen for street lamps and EV charging stations and supports India’s green hydrogen ambitions with plans for further development across 501 hectares.
Further projects include the establishment of a bunker system for green hydrogen and a dedicated terminal for windmill components, contributing to expanding Tamil Nadu’s wind energy capacity. VOC Port is also cooperating with shipping companies to launch a Green Shipping corridor and offer incentives for eco-friendly vessels, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and decarbonization in the maritime sector.
