Authorities in Kochi, India, have ordered a temporary suspension of the Water U-Bahn commuter service following a weekend incident where one of its ferries collided with a cargo ship.
The accident occurred on Saturday, May 31, at approximately 10:15 a.m. local time. A ferry operated by Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) lost control and crashed during entry at the Vypin-Steeg area of the city.
No casualties were reported, but the incident has prompted a review of safety protocols for the commuter service. The temporary suspension aims to ensure passenger safety while investigations are conducted.
Officials have stated that service will remain halted until further notice, as they assess the situation and implement necessary measures to prevent future accidents.
