On May 30, a collision occurred in the Western Scheldt, Netherlands, involving the inland motor vessel Beringzee and the containership Containerships Nord. Emergency response teams from Antwerp and the Netherlands, along with a Coast Guard helicopter, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The Beringzee, carrying three crew members and traveling from Antwerp to Vlissingen, suffered significant damage. Two crew members were thrown overboard but were rescued, with one sustaining minor injuries. The third crew member underwent precautionary examination. The vessel was stabilized with help from the inland vessels Kevalia and Verity, while tugboats remained on-site to assist.

A thin oil sheen was detected in the water, leading to the deployment of oil booms, although shipping traffic continued in the area. Meanwhile, the Containerships Nord, en route to Dunkirk, was allowed to proceed but was instructed to anchor at Vlissingen Anchorage for inspection. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the collision’s cause.
