Mangaluru: In a notable advancement for maritime education in India, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, will inaugurate the revamped MMCT 2.0 campus of Mangalore Marine College & Technology on November 13. Established in 2010, this institution is Karnataka’s sole marine college recognized by the Directorate General of Shipping, specializing in training for maritime careers.
MMCT operates under the CMC Group of Institutions, which has marine training centers in five key port cities. The group has successfully trained thousands of certified marine engineers and nautical officers who are now employed by prominent global shipping firms. The newly modernized campus spans over 150,000 square feet, equipped with facilities that meet international maritime training standards.
A standout feature of the upgrade is the Ship-in-Campus module, designed to simulate the operation of a real vessel, allowing students to gain practical experience with marine engines, auxiliary machinery, and navigation systems. Additionally, the campus houses advanced simulators, including a Full Mission Bridge Simulator and Engine Room Simulator, alongside specialized workshops, smart classrooms, a digital library, and recreational amenities.
The institution offers various career-oriented maritime programs, such as Graduate Marine Engineering and Diploma in Nautical Science. CMC Group Chairman S. I. Nathan emphasized that MMCT 2.0 is designed to address the rising global demand for skilled seafarers, aiming to equip professionals for the future of marine operations and sustainability. This upgraded campus positions Karnataka as a burgeoning hub for maritime workforce development in India.
