Frederick University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MSC Shipmanagement Cyprus, a subsidiary of the world’s largest container shipping company, MSC. This partnership aims to enhance the maritime workforce by providing scholarships and financial support to Cypriot students pursuing studies in the blue economy. The MoU was signed by MSC’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Prabha Jha, and Dr. Angelos Menelaou, Head of the Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce at Frederick University.
Under this agreement, MSC Shipmanagement will offer two full scholarships for the BSc in Maritime Studies program and short-term internships for new students. Scholarships will be awarded every two years, and financial support will also be provided for an annual educational field trip to key maritime institutions in Europe, including the International Maritime Organisation and the Baltic Exchange.
Furthermore, Frederick University will conduct workshops on marine and shipping topics for MSC personnel and collaborate on research initiatives. Jha emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the skills of Cyprus’ youth, while Dr. Menelaou highlighted the partnership’s alignment with the university’s mission to bridge academic learning with real-world maritime experience.
