A new advanced simulation suite, provided by Wärtsilä, has been launched at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), the maritime training institute of Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC), a Petronas subsidiary. This state-of-the-art facility enhances maritime education in the region, fostering a new generation of skilled seafaring professionals.

The suite incorporates Wärtsilä’s advanced dual-fuel simulator technology and virtual reality elements, offering immersive training scenarios. It also prepares seafarers to work with sustainable fuels like methanol and ammonia, crucial for the industry’s shift towards decarbonized operations. ALAM has been recognized as a part of Wärtsilä’s Maritime Advancement in Simulation, Technology and R&D Services (MASTERS) program, marking a significant milestone as the first center of its kind in the Asia Pacific.

The technical setup includes full-mission and multifunctional simulators for engine-room and liquid cargo handling training, as well as a navigation suite with extensive visualization and dynamic positioning capabilities. This initiative underscores ALAM’s commitment to elevating Maritime Education and Training (MET) standards in Malaysia and beyond, ensuring students are equipped with both technical skills and leadership qualities necessary for a global maritime career.
