ABS and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) have joined forces to drive innovation in maritime technology and talent development within the global maritime and offshore industries. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during Singapore Maritime Week focuses on advancing applied research in vessel system design, including ship power simulations and shore-to-ship charging technologies. Additionally, the collaboration will explore augmented and virtual reality tools for visualizing simulated scenarios, aiming to push the boundaries of maritime technology.

The partnership between ABS and SIT also aims to enhance talent and workforce development by offering targeted upskilling and professional growth opportunities through SIT’s Industrial Doctorate and Industrial Master’s programs. This includes providing structured on-the-job training placements for SIT undergraduate students, preparing them for successful careers in the maritime industry. Dr. Gu Hai, ABS Vice President of Technology, emphasized the importance of sharing best practices and breakthroughs in the rapidly evolving maritime sector, highlighting the significance of the collaboration in driving maritime innovation and supporting the next generation of seafarers.

Bernard Nee, Deputy President of Industry and Community at SIT, expressed the university’s commitment to equipping the future generation of maritime professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a dynamic global landscape. As the university for industry, SIT offers students authentic, hands-on experience through real-world projects and industry placements. Together with ABS, they are shaping the future of maritime innovation and talent development in key areas such as power system simulation, ship charging technologies, and augmented and virtual reality applications.
