The CIMAC working group WG20 has unveiled the guideline titled “Digital Twins in the Maritime Industry,” which explores the concepts and applications of digital twin technology. This comprehensive framework aims to help stakeholders understand and implement digital twins effectively, highlighting their potential benefits in maritime operations.

Chairman Prof. Dr. Hinrich Mohr of GasKraft Engineering notes the increasing prevalence of digital twins but acknowledges the difficulty in providing a precise definition. The guideline outlines six dimensions to characterize various types of digital twins, ensuring clarity for stakeholders.

To assist users in selecting the right digital twin for specific applications, the guideline includes an allocation table. Additionally, it presents four real-world use cases that illustrate different digital twin types, emphasizing the importance of aligning models with specific use cases for effective implementation.

CIMAC WG 20 comprises representatives from engine manufacturers, engineering firms, research institutions, and system integrators, all working together to establish regulations and standards for system integration in the maritime sector.
