Keihin Dock, a subsidiary of NYK Group, has entered into a joint demonstration agreement with Oceanic Constellations (OC), an ocean-tech startup, to develop a mass-production system for small unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). This initiative aims to address marine challenges in Japan through innovative solutions, marking a significant step in ocean monitoring with the deployment of multiple USVs equipped with advanced sensors and communication networks.

The collaboration seeks to establish a reliable production system for USVs, which will enhance ocean surveillance, data collection, and communication capabilities. Keihin Dock, known for its advanced shipbuilding, has previously constructed the world’s first commercial ammonia-fueled vessel and is committed to developing environmentally friendly ships. By merging its expertise with OC’s digital engineering, the partnership aims to create Japan’s first USV mass-production system.

Additionally, in June, NYK and OC signed a memorandum to collaborate on NYK’s offshore reusable rocket recovery system, further solidifying their strategic alliance. The newly developed USVs are expected to support marine environmental solutions and enhance NYK’s space initiatives. This partnership seeks to drive technological innovation across both oceanic and aerospace sectors.
