A new pedestrian and cycle bridge has been transported to Stockholm from Poland, arriving in six substantial sections, with the heaviest weighing 152 tons. This delivery highlights the efficiency of Stockholm’s quays in facilitating sustainable transport directly to central locations.

On April 12, the vessel Commander 1, towing the barge Carrier 17, reached Frihamnen Port, bringing the six bridge sections. These were manufactured in Poland and varied in size, measuring between 9 by 15 meters and 25 by 10 meters, totaling 230 meters in length. The sections were then lifted by the marine crane Lodbrok onto large pontoons for further transport to the Slussen project.

The new bridge will connect Södermalm and the Old City, enhancing pedestrian and cycling access. It is scheduled to open in early 2027, marking a significant development in urban infrastructure for Stockholm.
