Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and CEO of ADNOC, has issued a grave warning about the escalating threats to international navigation. He asserted that Iran has no rightful claim to control or impede movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement on the X platform, Al Jaber highlighted the alarming impact of military tensions since February 28, noting that at least 22 ships have been attacked, leading to the deaths of 10 crew members. He pointed out that around 20,000 seafarers are currently stranded, unable to navigate the strait safely. Additionally, approximately 800 commercial vessels, including 400 oil tankers, are now inaccessible, jeopardizing global energy security.
Al Jaber emphasized that any effort to close the Strait of Hormuz extends beyond a regional issue, posing a direct threat to the global economy, food security, and the well-being of nations worldwide. He condemned such actions as “illegal, dangerous, and unacceptable,” stressing that the international community must not allow further escalation. The Strait’s critical role as a vital artery for global trade and daily life makes it imperative to uphold safe navigation for all.
