Peninsula and the University of Gibraltar have advanced their collaboration with the establishment of the Peninsula Maritime Simulation Suite, a state-of-the-art facility funded by Peninsula. This initiative enhances cadet education and professional development while meeting UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) training requirements, solidifying Gibraltar’s position as a global maritime hub.
The suite is designed to support the University’s goal of creating a premier Maritime Simulation Centre and will enhance its BSc (Hons) Maritime Science and Cadetship program. It will provide essential simulation training for cadets aiming for their Certificate of Competence as Officers of the Watch, featuring a Part Task Navigational Bridge Simulator that complies with MCA’s updated sea-time equivalency standards.
Equipped with technology from Wärtsilä, this facility will be unique in the region, offering multi-language instruction in English, Spanish, and French. It will also provide specialized training modules for Peninsula officers and crew, including LNG bunkering scenarios and complex operational training.
The Peninsula Maritime Simulation Suite aims to support educational excellence, elevate Gibraltar’s status as a maritime training center, and foster research and training capabilities for future maritime operations.
