The second day of the Passenger Vessel Association’s 2025 Maritrends conference featured a tour and test ride on the new Artemis Technologies EF-12 Escape water taxi. The high-end vessel, soon to be introduced to US markets, impressed with its zero emissions and minimal wake, thanks to advanced hydrofoil technology. Capable of speeds up to 30 KT, the EF-12’s “foiling” design provides stability without the need for stabilizers, making it a smooth ride in various conditions.
Artemis co-founder David Tyler highlighted the vessel’s design features during the demonstration. With advanced battery systems allowing for a quick 60-minute charge, the carbon fiber construction makes the vessel 40% lighter and potentially less expensive than aluminum alternatives. The vessel meets Coast Guard standards for domestic passenger vessels, with plans for a larger version, the F-24, to accommodate 150 passengers under the Coast Guard’s subchapter T class.
Artemis Technologies, known for its fast sailboats, has adapted its electric design for workboats, with potential future hybrid solutions for niche sectors like patrol boats. The fully electric Artemis vessels are making waves in the pilot boat and crew transfer vessel markets in Europe, offering a stable and comfortable ride even in rough seas. Operators in offshore wind and oil & gas industries are recognizing the value of reliable transportation for their personnel, with Artemis technology meeting the demand for safety and comfort on the water.
