Recently, crewmembers from a log boat docked at Eastland Port were spotted walking into the city, raising some queries about their shore leave. However, they were permitted to come ashore. An Eastland Port spokeswoman clarified that all New Zealand ports adhere to strict protocols regarding crew movements in light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
Under Alert Level 2, crew members are allowed shore leave provided their vessels comply with health safety measures. The spokeswoman noted that ships must undergo a 14-day quarantine at sea before their arrival in New Zealand. Furthermore, all vessels are required to submit health declarations for their crew, which must be approved prior to entering port facilities.
These measures are essential to ensure the safety of both the crew and the local community while allowing for a degree of normalcy amid ongoing health concerns.
