Princess Cruises Third Officer Shaina Moriones made history as the valedictorian and only female cum laude at the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) in the Philippines. Hailing from Cebu City and the eldest of nine siblings, Shaina boldly chose to pursue STEM maritime courses in high school, defying traditional expectations for women.
Her experiences at MMMA transformed her into a resilient leader, but it was her onboard training with Princess Cruises from 2023 to 2024 that solidified her passion for the sea. Facing real-world challenges, such as unpredictable weather and teamwork dynamics, Shaina thrived, stating, “Life onboard was challenging, but it strengthened my passion for seafaring.”
Shaina’s achievements extend beyond personal success; they represent a significant shift for women in the maritime industry, traditionally male-dominated. She aims to inspire young Filipinos, especially women, to pursue careers in this field, embracing its challenges and rewards.
As the maritime landscape evolves, Shaina Moriones stands as a testament to perseverance and passion, paving the way for future generations and making waves in her journey.
