QatarEnergy CEO Saad Al Kaabi announced the signing of charter agreements with several Asian shipowners to expand the company’s fleet of vessels in preparation for a significant increase in LNG production. A total of 19 LNG ships will be added to the fleet, with contracts signed with companies such as CMES LNG Carrier Investment, Shandong Marine Energy, and MISC Berhad. These vessels will be built at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and a joint venture between Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and Hyundai Glovis.

The agreements bring the total number of vessels contracted by QatarEnergy to 104, with 43 of them being chartered by its subsidiary, QatarEnergy Trading. The new LNG ships will each have a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and will support QatarEnergy’s North Field expansion project. This expansion will increase Qatar’s liquefaction capacity from 77 million tonnes per annum to 142 mtpa by 2030, positioning the country as the world’s leading LNG exporter.

The investment in new vessels is part of QatarEnergy’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the LNG market and meet the growing demand for liquefied natural gas. With the addition of 19 new LNG ships, the company is preparing for a significant increase in production capacity and solidifying its position as a key player in the global energy industry. The expansion project underscores QatarEnergy’s commitment to delivering reliable and efficient LNG solutions to its customers.
