Visakhapatnam Port Authority announced that the port achieved a milestone by handling a record-breaking 74 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo almost a month before the end of fiscal year 2023-24. This surpasses the port’s previous record of 73.75 MMT in the previous fiscal year. The accomplishment was confirmed by VPA secretary T Venu Gopal in a press release.
The 90-year-old port achieved this milestone at 6 a.m. on a Saturday, according to an official statement. VPA Chairman M. Angamuthu praised the port’s traffic manager, deputy conservator, and all department heads for their efforts in achieving this record. He expressed hope that the port would reach a new milestone of handling 80 MMT of cargo in the current financial year.
