Maryland Sues Dali’s Owner and Operator for Baltimore Bridge Collapse

Maryland has filed civil lawsuits against the owner and operator of a cargo ship involved in a fatal bridge collision, seeking damages for cleanup and environmental claims. Proposed Legislation Holds Foreign Shipowners Liable in US Waters

U.S. Representative John Garamendi (D-CA-08) introduced a bill targeting foreign shipowners responsible for maritime disasters in U.S. waters, following the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse caused by the M/V Dali. Co-sponsored by U.S. Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA-04), the Justice for Victims of Foreign Vessel Accidents Act aims to increase financial responsibility for foreign vessels to better support victims and families.

US House committee to hold hearing on Baltimore bridge collapse

The U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will hold a hearing on the federal response to a bridge collapse in Baltimore. The collision involving the cargo ship Dali at Francis Scott Key Bridge led to six deaths. Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse: Maersk Issues Update

Global shipping giant Maersk has provided an update on its operations post the Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore. The company informed customers with cargo on board MV Dali to notify their insurers immediately about the General Average declaration. Alternate channels have been opened in Baltimore, but larger vessels are unable to access them. Maersk is awaiting confirmation on a third channel to open in April. Customers are advised to arrange freight through alternative ports like Newark, Norfolk, and Philadelphia. Maersk has temporarily suspended new SPOT sea bookings to and from Baltimore.

NTSB Updates Senate on M/V Dali Incident Investigation

Jennifer Homendy, chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), updated the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on the ongoing investigation of the M/V Dali incident and Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore. Extensive interviews with crew members and stakeholders have been conducted, with a preliminary report expected in May.
