Bound4blue has successfully installed the world’s largest suction sails on the MV Atlantic Orchard, a specialized juice carrier chartered by Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) and owned by Wisby Tankers AB. The four 26-meter high eSAILs® were fitted during the vessel’s 10-year survey at Astander Shipyard in Spain, ensuring optimal efficiency.
Global chemical tanker operator Odfjell is now using wind-assisted propulsion to reduce emissions. Their first sail installation on the Bow Olympus in Antwerp is being closely monitored for its impact on operations. VP Technology Erik Hjortland stressed the importance of real-time analysis. Odfjell plans to install more sails after validating results.

Amasus, a European shipping company, is partnering with Spain’s bound4blue for a second installation of the eSail technology on one of its cargo ships. This installation will feature the largest suction sail system on a general cargo vessel, with a 22-meter unit being retrofitted on a 90-meter cargo ship.
Bound4blue’s eSAIL® has received Type Approval from DNV for its innovative wind-assist technology. The autonomous suction sails enhance propulsive efficiency by reducing engine loads, fuel consumption, and emissions. Shipowners like Odfjell and Eastern Pacific Shipping are already interested in this lightweight and easy-to-install system, which offers significant benefits for vessel types.
