The inauguration of the new Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) building was officiated today by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Funded by Japan, the center enhances the Maldives’ maritime emergency response. Notable attendees included Japan’s Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko, who reaffirmed Japan’s support for Maldives’ developmental initiatives and Coast Guard services.
On December 21, HM Coastguard responded to reports of a lifeboat washed ashore near Sidmouth. The Beer Coastguard Rescue Team discovered the damaged vessel, named BF Carp, which had broken free from its containership. The lifeboat, missing since December 17, was secured to prevent further damage. Investigations are ongoing.
The New Zealand Government is investing in upgrading critical communication networks for Maritime New Zealand and Coastguard New Zealand to enhance maritime search and rescue efforts. The funding will modernize infrastructure, align with international standards, and improve the VHF network to meet the growing demands of recreational and commercial maritime activities.
