Swedish forest company SCA has partnered with Nordic energy firm Gasum to utilize its liquefied biogas pooling service, aiming to meet EU maritime emissions regulations. This collaboration supports SCA’s goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030. Gasum’s bio-LNG can lower greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%.
Gasum has partnered with DNV to ensure the accuracy of its FuelEU Maritime pooling service. DNV will use its Emissions Connect solution to gather and validate emissions data from Gasum’s vessels. This collaboration aims to verify pool compliance at the end of the year, in line with the new requirements set by the FuelEU Maritime regulation.
Gasum’s pooling service offers vessels the chance to switch to renewable bio-LNG, reducing emissions by over 90% compared to traditional fuels. Viking Line is set to join, using bio-LNG for routes between Finland and Sweden to surpass emission standards. Gasum aims to provide 7 TWh of renewable gas by 2027.
Gasum, a Nordic energy company, has partnered with Wasaline to create a commercial FuelEU Maritime pooling service. This initiative aims to help conventional fuel vessels save on compliance costs as the FuelEU Maritime regulation comes into effect in January 2025. The regulation targets ships over 5,000 gross tonnage.

Gasum’s specialized vessels showcase operational readiness, supporting Equinor’s sustainability goals. Both companies prioritize reducing emissions, with Equinor aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. The renewed agreement highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing sustainability in the maritime industry through the use of LNG and bio-LNG.
