Australia will gift a Guardian-class Patrol Boat to the Maldives, enhancing bilateral defense cooperation and maritime security in the Indian Ocean. Set for delivery in 2026, the vessel will boost the Maldives’ capacity to monitor its exclusive economic zone, combat illegal activities, and conduct search and rescue operations.
India has signed 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Maldives, committing MVR 100 million to enhance ferry services and maritime connectivity. These agreements, part of the High Impact Community Development Project Phase III, aim to uplift community livelihoods and strengthen the partnership between the two nations through improved infrastructure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the Maldives Mohamed Muizzu held talks to strengthen economic and maritime security ties. They acknowledged mutual challenges in the Indian Ocean Region and vowed to improve cooperation. India promised support for the Maldives’ defense projects and initiatives to empower women entrepreneurs and youth.
