This week’s maritime roundup puts seafarer protection in focus: India and Liberia launch a joint initiative at the G20, India pursues a Black Sea plan to stop attacks on ships, DGMA eases its RPSL cap, a new federation forms in Chennai, and STCW delays and ammonia ships raise training questions.
India’s Directorate General of Maritime Administration in Mumbai has eased its anti-abandonment rules. Up to three RPSL agencies may now crew one cargo ship, instead of two, and there is no limit for cruise and passenger ships. All other safeguards against seafarer abandonment stay in force.
India’s Directorate General of Maritime Administration in Mumbai says its Enhanced RPSL Module is now live as one online platform for seafarer recruitment and placement. An e-Migrate consent facility for joining foreign-flag ships will follow soon; until then, existing procedures continue for manning agencies.
Crew change management is harder than ever for Indian manning companies in 2026. Hormuz deployment bans, rising refusals and a global officer shortage are delaying reliefs. This practical guide explains eight steps RPSL offices can take to plan earlier, search available seafarers first, cut wasted recruitment effort and relieve crews on time.
Indian seafarers deployment in Malaysia’s Sarawak is now restricted by DGMA; stay informed and comply with new safety regulations.
