Bali Jatra Festival Celebrated in UK

The historic Bali Jatra festival, celebrating Odisha's maritime legacy, made its debut in the UK at Townley Grammar School, Bexley. Hosted by the Odisha Society of United Kingdom (OSUK), the event attracted over 500 attendees, including dignitaries, cultural figures, and community leaders from both the UK and India.

The historic Bali Jatra festival, celebrating Odisha’s maritime legacy, made its debut in the UK at Townley Grammar School, Bexley. Hosted by the Odisha Society of United Kingdom (OSUK), the event attracted over 500 attendees, including dignitaries, cultural figures, and community leaders from both the UK and India. The ceremonial Boita Bandana, symbolizing Odisha’s ancient trade with Southeast Asia, was inaugurated by notable guests, highlighting the region’s rich maritime history.

The festivities commenced with the Indian and British national anthems, followed by Odisha’s state anthem, Bande Utkala Janani. Various performances, including a mesmerizing Odissi dance routine and a mental well-being session led by a yoga guru, captivated the audience. The event’s director emphasized its goal of showcasing Odisha’s heritage globally and fostering cultural and trade connections on an international scale.

The presence of Ollywood superstars, traditional performances, and a fashion show showcasing Odisha’s handloom heritage added glamour to the event. Bollywood singer Asit Tripathy entertained the audience with a mix of Bollywood and Sambalpuri songs, while an Odissi dancer dedicated her performance to mental health awareness. The Mayor of Bexley and other distinguished guests delivered messages on behalf of the Royal Representative, extending greetings from esteemed figures in the UK.
