The International Safety Guide for Inland Navigation Tank-barges and Terminals (ISGINTT), jointly published by OCIMF and the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR), has released its updated second edition, available in five languages: English, French, German, Dutch, and Portuguese. This guide offers essential recommendations for the safe handling and transportation of crude oils, petroleum products, chemicals, and liquefied gases, while also addressing the interface between inland tank-barges and other vessels or terminals.
Although ISGINTT does not aim to replace existing legal requirements, it serves as a valuable best-practice resource, fostering safety across the inland navigation sector. The initiative underscores a collective commitment by OCIMF and CCNR to keep industry guidance current and accessible. A Spanish translation is also anticipated in the future.
Don Davis, OCIMF’s Managing Director, emphasizes the importance of clear communication in safety practices, highlighting that this multilingual update ensures the guidance is practical for all users. In a similar vein, Hester Duursema, CCNR’s Secretary General, points to the collaborative effort of industry and regulatory bodies in enhancing safety and efficiency through good practices.
The updated ISGINTT maintains its established structure while spotlighting risk awareness and the significance of human factors in operational safety. The guide is available for free download from both the OCIMF and ISGINTT websites, promoting widespread access and implementation in the sector.
