Bremerhaven’s annual “Maritime Week” attracted around 50,000 attendees, showcasing a variety of watercrafts from sailing vessels to tugboats and steamships. The event, which took place from midweek until Sunday, saw an increase of approximately 10,000 attendees compared to the previous year, according to Michael Gerber, executive director of Erlebnis Bremerhaven GmbH. Visitors had the opportunity to explore 13 different watercrafts, including the sailing school ship “Alexander von Humboldt II” and replicas of Spanish galleons, with around 5,200 people taking part in boat tours.
The festivities also included 180 market stands and nearly 40 musical performances across four stages, featuring a mix of sea shanties, German pop, and rock music. A total of 5.85 million euros were invested in the event, aimed at positioning Bremerhaven as an attractive city. The “Maritime Week” serves as a precursor to the larger windjammer festival “Sail”, which occurs every five years, with the next event scheduled for August 2025.
Music enthusiasts were drawn to the diverse lineup of performances during the “Maritime Week”, which included not only sea shanties but also German pop and rock music. The sailing school ship “Alexander von Humboldt II” emerged as a popular spot for live music events, adding to the appeal of the watercrafts for visitors seeking entertainment. With the success of this year’s event, Bremerhaven continues to solidify its reputation as a vibrant and welcoming city for maritime celebrations.
