The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, emphasized the potential of the maritime industry in creating job opportunities for youths in Nigeria. Speaking at an education to employment transition program at the University of Lagos with the theme “Blue Career Insights”, Oyetola highlighted the government’s commitment to exploring innovative ways to address challenges in educational institutions and provide necessary skills for maritime careers.
Oyetola announced plans for training programs, certifications by the private sector, exchange programs with international maritime institutes, and scholarships for students pursuing maritime studies. He encouraged Nigerian youths to seize the opportunities in the industry, contribute to the growth of the blue economy, and become ambassadors of the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, initiated the program to equip students with employability skills and reduce graduate unemployment. She urged students to take advantage of the opportunity and be attentive to the skills and knowledge being offered to them. The event aimed to bridge the gap between education and employment, preparing students for successful careers in the maritime sector.
