Seafarers are hailed as the lifeblood of the maritime industry by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, emphasizing their crucial role in the success of the blue economy. During the 2024 Day of the Seafarer celebration in Lagos, Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, highlighted Nigeria’s potential to become a maritime powerhouse with the right policies in place.
The Minister assured the commitment of the Federal Government to the development of the Nigerian maritime sector, aligning with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Navigating the Future, Safety First.” Seafarers endure the challenges of the open sea, weather unpredictability, and navigating perilous waters to ensure the global flow of goods and resources, supporting livelihoods and international trade.
The Federal Government is dedicated to providing comprehensive training, enforcing safety regulations, and advocating for the welfare of Nigerian seafarers. NIMASA’s collaboration with the International Transport Federation aims to address the challenges faced by seafarers, recognizing their importance in the maritime sector and ensuring their well-being remains a top priority.
