The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully intercepted a vessel suspected of diesel smuggling off the coast of Mumbai, seizing approximately ₹10 lakh in unaccounted cash and illicit liquor. The vessel, known as IFB Gauri Ganesh, was carrying six crew members and was escorted to Mumbai Harbour for further investigation by various agencies.
The ICG acted on intelligence received around 2:10 p.m. on September 10, which indicated unauthorized activities near an offshore oil rig. In response, the advanced offshore patrol vessel, ICG Ship Sankalp, was deployed to the area for a thorough investigation. The operation intensified with a midnight boarding on September 11, during which personnel from Ship Sankalp managed to intercept the suspicious vessel.
Upon boarding, Coast Guard officials conducted a search and discovered hidden cash and illegal liquor. Although the amount of diesel allegedly involved in the smuggling operation was not disclosed, the Coast Guard’s swift action highlights its commitment to countering such illicit activities.
Currently, multiple agencies are collaborating to deepen their understanding of the suspected smuggling network, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details about the operation.
