Florida’s Port Canaveral has experienced record-breaking growth in its cruise ship industry, with a 16 percent year-over-year increase in passenger volumes in March. This growth comes after a successful winter season and the addition of new, larger ships to the port’s lineup. Port Canaveral CEO, Capt. John Murray, expressed excitement over the strong demand for sailings from the port and the impressive increase in passenger numbers.
In March 2025, the port handled a total of 925,994 passengers, marking the second record month in the nearly completed winter season. Port officials reported handling 4.42 million passengers in the first six months of FY 2025, with projections to reach 8.4 million passengers for the full year. This growth is attributed to a record number of cruise ships sailing from the port during peak winter months, with over 1,000 trips annually, including shorter trips to the Bahamas.
Port Canaveral’s popularity as a homeport has been on the rise, particularly for cruise guests who prefer driving to their port of departure. The port’s proximity to Central Florida’s theme parks and attractions has also contributed to its appeal, with over a quarter of passengers staying in the local area for pre- or post-cruise stays. To further enhance accessibility and convenience for guests, the port is investing in expanded terminals, updated parking facilities, and technology improvements. Additionally, upcoming plans include welcoming new cruise ships like the Norwegian Aqua and Star of the Seas, as well as the positioning of Carnival Festivale and MSC World Atlantic in the port in the coming years.
